One of my favorite resources near my desk is the third edition of Discovering Biblical Equality. It is not a “sit down and read through” type of book but rather a resource of wonderful chapters from various authors across the scholarly perspective.
Last year, I taught an online course through the Center for Dignity on God and the world of the Old Testament. This course hoped to discern the throughline of God’s self-disclosure in the Hebrew Bible while paying particular attention to some of the uncommon imagery God uses for God’s self.
In the book mentioned above, a chapter is dedicated to God as Mother and Spiritual Formation (Chapter 19). And I’d like to draw a few reflections from this chapter and my journey.
I did not begin to attend church regularly until I was a sophomore in high school. In some ways, this is a good thing, as most of my faith perspective was formed while in college and seminary. There was less to undo. But not totally.
